Restore Mailbox From Exchange 2010 Database Without Log Files

Recovering Exchange 2010 database is simple than the process of repairing it. Once you have a proper backup plan available along with log files to update the database, getting back messaging data is not complicated. Hard recovery of database indeed is the choice of number of administrators but it can be halt to restore mailbox from Exchange 2010 database if transaction files are not available (corrupt or missing). In most of the cases, error messages like JET_errLogFileCorrupt -501 are encountered that restricts smooth restoration of mailbox database.
Why Log Files are Important for Recovery?
In short, Log files can be defined as an evidence report of every activity done on Server. From deletion of mailbox to moving a message to different folder, every activity gets recorded into log files. All transactions that take place in a database get saved into log files.
The default size of every log file is defined according to the version of Exchange Server used and the number of files can be extended as per requirement. As the files increase in number, a series of file gets created that records data in sequence.
When the database is restored from backup, log files are replayed against it. In this process, if the file is missing from the sequence or is corrupt, the recovery process will be a failure. This is the reason why it is said that for recovery and restoration of database, it is important to have log files available.
What if Log File is Not Available?
In such an adverse scenario, the option is to go for repair process because that does not call for transaction files into order to bring the DB into functional state. However, repair with Eseutil /p switch or with the New-MailboxRepairRequest command should be considered as a last solution because it is likely to cause data loss and is not a success in scenarios where one or two mailboxes are to be recovered.
So, what is the solution to restore mailbox from Exchange 2010 database if the transaction logs are not available? In this case, message data recovery can be done using Exchange Recovery software that restores EDB mailboxes to PST or Live Exchange Server EDB file format.
